Located 180 miles southwest of St. Petersburg, accessible by car or train, Pskov Kremlin (15th Century) was built as a military fort to protect the city and nearby lands from possible attacks from its neighbors. It now serves as a museum.

The Pskov Caves Monastery is one of the largest and most beautiful monasteries in Russia and has been in active use since its foundation in the 15th Century.

Pskov also has many small 4-pillar churches of Novgorodian style. Pskov builders were highly regarded and also built St.Basil's Cathedral in Moscow.
