Moscow University was founded in 1755 by Russian scientist Mikhail Lomonosov. This 36-story building was designed by architect Chechulin and built between 1949-1953 on the highest point of Sparrow Hills by the order of Stalin who had six other similar Gothic style sky-scrapers built through out the city. This is the tallest of the seven at 240 meters (787feet). It is the largest University in Russia, with 50000 students from over 100 countries. The campus comprises 40 buildings, including sport centers, an observatory, the library with over 6 million volumes, botanical gardens and a park.
